As we’ve emphasized throughout this booklet, The Center For Weight Loss Surgery at Hialeah Hospital offers a comprehensive, multidisciplinary approach that brings together a team of bariatric experts. These experts are here to work with each patient to help them gain the knowledge necessary to lead a healthier life. Our staff is also fully bilingual.

Our team includes a group of highly skilled and experienced bariatric surgeons, as well as trained bariatric nurses, a bariatric nurse coordinator, registered dieticians, physical therapists, respiratory therapists, psychologists and social workers. Specialized training makes them sensitive to the needs of bariatric patients and their ultimate goal is your ultimate weight loss success.

Doctor Bios

Juan Carlos Fleites, M.D., P.A., F.A.C.S. is a board-certified surgeon specializing in general, bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. He obtained his medical degree at the Universidad Central del Caribe in Puerto Rico, followed by a Residency in General Surgery at Brookdale Hospital Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY. He also completed a Research Fellowship in Microsurgery at Montefiore Medical Center in Bronx, NY. He is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Society of Bariatric Surgeons, The Society of Laparoendoscopic Surgeons and the American Society of Breast Surgeons.  

Raul Mederos, M.D., F.A.C.S.,  is a board-certified surgeon specializing in general, bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. He obtained his medical degree at the University of Florida College of Medicine in Gainesville, FL. He then completed a Residency in General Surgery at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami, followed by a Fellowship in Minimally-Invasive Surgery at Mercy Hospital. He is a member of the American College of Surgeons, the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons. He has published multiple articles in medical journals and has lectured in various conferences throughout the state.

Enrique Whittwell, M.D., F.A.S.M.B.S., is a board-certified surgeon specializing in general, bariatric and laparoscopic surgery. He obtained his medical degree from the Universidad Peruana Cayetano Heredia in Lima, Peru. He continued his training with a Residency in General Surgery at Jackson Memorial Hospital/University of Miami where he was Chief Resident. He then went on to complete a Fellowship in Trauma Medicine also at Jackson Memorial Hospital. He is a member and Fellow of the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS). He is also a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES), and a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgical Critical Care and the American Board of Surgery.
